The 2008 December Toronto Symposium on Risk, Uncertainty and Effective Governance is on December 4-5.

Governing the Treasury during Financial Uncertainty
Stock market collapse. Credit crunch. Financial fraud. Money laundering. These are all things to send shivers through the hearts of governance professionals everywhere. Learn how you can work with your Treasurer to minimize the risks associated with these critical issues.

Other topical areas that will be discussed include:

  • Risk management seminar: Using current events such as the recent propane explosions, identify, assess and manage the risk your organization faces
  • Evidence that good governance affects the bottom line
  • The role of governance professionals in monitoring and promoting society, environment and economy
  • Practical tools to pro-actively identify and implement good governance procedures
  • Review of recent developments in regulatory action and rulings, legislation, and case law
  • Practical experience with evaluations to identify not only areas for improvement but the skill sets Directors need to enhance the company’s growth and success
  • The Ontario Securities Commission will be discussing the changeover to and fair value of IFRS, certification in Canada, XBRL and CSA and OSC reviews.

The Directors' Education & Accreditation Program (DEAP) helps you clarify your governance mission to fully exercise your leadership potential as a Director. DEAP delivers value right from the start through its concentrated delivery, low cost, and widely recognized designation - Acc.Dir., or Accredited Director - all adding up to an unparalleled value for your Directors and organization. The designation brings you six letters closer to being the best in your role.

Since DEAP accepts only a small select group of Directors per session and a fair amount of pre-reading is required, please apply as soon as possible. The last session of 2008 is:

Calgary: November 24-26, 2008

For details or dates and locations in 2009, please visit www.icsacanada.org/DEAP.
